King’s College London Student Union Support Penguins With Student RAG Activities 2017-18

Penguins Against Cancer is delighted that the RAG committee of King’s College London Student Union (KCLSU) has chosen our own charity as one of three charities for their 2017-18 fundraising efforts (the other two charities being supported are Action Against Hunger and Mind).

As Vinay Tailor, King's Raising & Giving President for 2017-18 explains:

“King's RAG is the largest student-run fundraising society at King's College London. We like to achieve our goals by offering the best university experience available at KCL. We really have something for everyone, whether that be sell-out events, hilarious and ambitious shows and productions, or meticulously planned overseas challenges! King's RAG organises street collecting days and encourages lovely RAGgers (students) to hit the streets, armed with buckets, to raise as much as possible for our chosen charities.

Here’s what the RAGgers have achieved so far:

RAGventure - 22nd September 2017

Part of the Freshers’ package offered by the King’s College Medical Students Association (MSA), RAG put on its annual 'scavenger' hunt around the heart of London. It gives the Freshers an opportunity to meet each other and have some fun completing fun and crazy challenges. This year’s RAGventure involved wheelbarrow races with members of the public, a three-legged race across the Millennium Bridge and one lucky fresher who managed to catch a pigeon!

Great King's Run - 14th October 2017

With over 300 participants, KCLSU RAG committee organised the biggest-ever community running event at King's in collaboration with King's Athletics & King's Sport. Runners took on either a 5km or 10km run along a beautiful Thames route passing over nine London landmarks. The 5km run was a colour run, which had a massive response from students, helping us raise £1,000 in half a day!

RAG's Take Me Out - 24th & 26th January 2018

This is one of our most popular events, proven by the fact we sold out both shows this year - over 900 people came to watch and/or participated. If you've seen the ITV show, our smaller version runs in much the same way with the finest bachelors that KCL & GKT sports teams and societies have to offer go through multiple rounds trying to impress our hard-to-get female contestants or ended up with a dreaded black out because after all... NO LIKEY, NO LIGHTY! With talents ranging from some very questionable dance moves to beautiful piano playing and very humorous poetry from GKTRFC.

Everyone here at Penguins Against Cancer wishes the King’s College RAGgers every success in their continuing fundraising escapades during the year. It is clear that everything they undertake mirrors our own philosophy of “Raising funds whilst having fun”!
